Light NOK Light gray OK

I also have Mint with GTK3. Light looks NOK as it is dark, adding other theme
as Light gray is OK as really light. Tested with master 26.8+.

We don't have the 'Application Colors' or 'Personalization' pannels anymore, we
now have a single 'Appearance' pannel which has all the appearance settings. In
the new UI, we have a checkbox "Enable application theming" which is unchecked
by default, so could you please download/use the newer version (one with the
Appearance panel) and report if you can reproduce the issue?

It's also dependent on the desktop environment, for example if you are using
KDE, then the gtk light/dark toggle might not work as your current gtk theme
might not have a light version available on the system. So it matters "which
gtk theme you are using" and "which theme is selected/current".

I can confirm this behavior on Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.2. Even when manually
selecting a 'Light' theme within LibreOffice settings (Tools > Options >
LibreOffice > Application Colors and Personalization), the application
continues to inherit the system-wide Dark mode.

While I prefer a dark system theme, the current LibreOffice dark implementation
has several UI scaling and visibility issues. Being unable to override the
system theme to use the 'Light' interface is a significant regression in
usability.

On my system with version 24.2.7.2 (Ubuntu 24.04) I see three options for
appearance mode: System, Light, Dark. I think when it is set to System,
LibreOffice should respect the system (dark) setting, but if manually set it to
Light, then it should be light no matter what is set for the system.

I really think that at this point this is a confirmed bug.

reproduced also in
LibreOfficeDev 25.8.0.0.alpha0 4957d832c76598e78a57324dad5b4de7345a33e2

again, it can be debated if it's up to LO to sort out contradicting user
settings. But from a naive user perspective it is valid to state the
libreoffice-level setting should be enforced, despite set "gtk-theme" or
"color-scheme" host side.

as others, I can confirm Stéphanes and Michaels reports from 2023 and 2024 to
still apply for current 25.2.1.2, described in this answer:
https://superuser.com/a/1886081/744005

The issue is a set gtk3 theme value other than a light theme. Especially
confusing to users when their gtk4 choice is the opposite, as in gtk3:dark,
gtk4:light, LO compiled with gtk3, cannot change LO-gtk3 theme to light.

This is a bug (in my case) Debians package (libgtk-3-0?) that sets the gtk3
theme value incongruent with gtk4 at the same time: in debian testing it's
Adwaita-dark on a fresh install when gtk4 is on light "Adwaita".

(the quick fix is: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme '')

I wonder if this can be somehow handled in libreoffice until gtk3 is phased out
and even when compiled against gtk3, trying to read the config of the gtk4
settings and give it precedence.

(that is: "org.gnome.desktop.interface color-scheme" is either "prefer-dark"
for dark-mode or its absence being the light mode, or "prefer-light"
explicitly)

looking at the logic where GTK_CHECK_VERSION is invoked if there could be done
something with glib schemas and readout both settings:

https://git.libreoffice.org/core/+/refs/tags/libreoffice-25.2.2.1/vcl/unx/gtk3/custom-theme.cxx

used version:
LibreOffice 25.2.1.2 520(Build:2)
debian unstable / Wayland / GNOME 48
libgtk 3.24.48-4 + libgtk 4.17.5+ds-3

Test nightly against a 25.8 release, or the nightly for 25.2.0.2. Your tested
25.2.0.1 (ddb2a7ea) is not final for the 25.2.0 release. [1]

See bug 164420

At 25.2 new themed Appearance framework asserts [2], some tweaks to automatic
fallback and settings still pending, rather than default 'Automatic' load the
theme extensions 'Light Application Color' or 'Lime Theme'

The System, Light or Dark then pull from the themes which include sets of both
Light and Dark values.

And if you roll your own theme--assign appropriate Light and Dark color sets in
your theme.

Believe this issue will be OBE otherwise as the Appearance framework is
finalized over the next few release/patch cycles.
