Issue still persists but after some fixes in the WritingTool extension it
appears that the problem occurs less frequently.

There might be a potential solution coming from the WritingTool extension side,
so not a LO bug as such:

One additional comment: the freezes might have something to do with the
WritingTool extension.

I've tried out a fresh new profile without any extension or configuration
changes and have not experienced any issues until I've installed the
WritingTool extension - at that moment with Skia enabled the freezes came back.
I'm not able to say how this is connected to Skia and if it's not just a
correlation.

I've also submitted a potential bug report for the WritingTool
https://github.com/writingtool-org/writingtool/issues/17

I can't update my graphics card drivers more directly than by downloading an
install package from manufacturer's website, which I've been doing since
Windows 3.1. ;) One more thing I can do is a clean diver install which I'll try
later today.

However (and I can't find that bug report, I don't see anything that was closed
already), a year or two ago Writer was crashing for me without any error
message. If I recall correctly the solution was to blacklist the type or model
of the gfx card I have as not fully compatible with Skia.

Again, please try updating it from the vendor directly instead of Windows
update.

Skia disabled (and gfx driver updated).

I have not observed any freezes or crashes with Skia disabled.
Writer froze when the very moment I had to restart it after turning Skia back
again, and then it crashed without any error message when I opened and tried to
close 12 documents.

However, I've noticed quite visible performance downgrade with Skia disabled,
especially in Cals (in general, but most noticeable with a couple of pages of
data)) and in Writer (larger documents). Hardware acceleration is turned on.

Will check. Do you need any kind of logs?
So far switching to "Force Skia software rendering" resulted in two Writer
crashes within 10 minutes without any error message.

Test disabling Skia at all.
Maybe something in relation with the graphics driver, try updating it from the
vendor directly instead of Windows update.
