The topic was on the agenda of the design meeting.

+ prefer an alternative command to clear all DF as it would be
an endless subject of discussions of what or what not has
 to be cleared (Sascha)
+ better keep shortcuts simple without adding dialogs (Sascha)
=> w/o a complete list of attributes it makes no sense to
ponder over a dialog; better hard-clean the formatting

So ideally we start with a UNO command that clears all DF. And if needed the
dialog could be added later.

Can you make an overview of these attributes without too much effort?

This part is no-go. Hundreds of them (see Style Inspector or Sevelopment
tools), and that would make such configuration simply unusable.

If at all, only things that are usually excluded from Clear DF should appear in
such configuration. And I'd say that a dialog is not useful here, only some
option page similar to "Writer/Formatting Aids".

Well, I was think about listing everything what is what cleared by Clear Direct
Formatting (like bold/unbold] and the other direct formatting excluded from
Clear direct formatting, but belong to the group 'direct formatting'

[Not able to find nice list of everything which can be DF]

And well you could add extra's: "Clear Direct Formatting does - currently - not
clear directly formatted bullets and numbering found in a paragraph.

But well this first through, without careful consideration :-). I struggle with
visualizing the dialog..

Another route would be some character style with 'clear direct formatting
behaviour' instead of applying a style. But also here no clue how this should
work/if this workable at all.

taking the Font tab includes both style (font weight) and language (locale).
The alternative is to just purge everything without any choice.

Yes, there are some explicit exceptions for Clear DF operation, this one being
one of them. I assume this is perceived to be more user-friendly ...

I suppose that having a configuration (some options page, with checkboxes
"clear this, that, and that" - like "Paste Special in Calc", only in options)
would make sense. Personally I would definitely use that to maximize what Clear
DF does.

@Mike
Clear DF doesn't - by definition - delete every piece of character DF; as far I
know. And I'm lacking an overview of the full picture.. So you're likely better
equipped to answer the OP request

[Or is there some need for dialog in some sense analog too Paste Special in
Calc to have fine grained control?]
