[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 52238] Document templates get formated differently depending on user interface language setting

2023-01-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52238

Thanks for the heads-up. So the old repro attachment will not work anymore due
to another rename of the style.

Note that I reported the issue because this bug actually occurred in practice
at a company that used LibreOffice. So this not a theoretical issue.

Maybe it becomes less likely the more complicated the default names become, not
sure. Ideally, style identification would be decoupled from localization.
However I'm no expert here, maybe someone else has an idea.

The bug can be reproduce only if we rename the style "Default Paragraph Style".

Meanwhile, the default paragraph style have been renamed: "Default Paragraph
Style".
I supose no one will create a new style exactly with this long name. Everyone
should create styles based on what they want to create.

Indeed, IF someone with any other language creates a new style with the name
"Default Paragraph Style" and change to English user interface, the bug
persist. But who would do that? I understanded when was a short name, like
"Default". But now?

Tested with

Dear Michael P.,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team

example update for 4.1.4.2

Also note that the attached example file does not show the error due the rename
of "Default" style to "Default Style", so I've attached a new version that
shows the error with LibreOffice 4.1.4.2. Just compare the document with
english and german interface languages set. In german, the template will
display correctly with "Times New Roman" text. With english as interface
language, the same document will show in Verdana Bold instead.

Version|3.5.5.3 release |4.1.4.2 release

I can confirm that this issue still exists in the current 4.1.4.2 release.
Apparently the default style in LibreOffice was renamed from "Default" to
"Default Style" since this bug reported in LibreOffice 3.5.5.3. In order to
reproduce this bug with the new version, a slight modification to the above
"Steps to reproduce" is required:

1. Change interface language to German and restart office.
2. Create a new text document, add some text.
3. Add a new user defined style called "Default Style". Do this by opening the
"Styles and formating" window (F11). Right click on the style called "Standard"
and click "New..." ("Neu..." in german). Set the style name to "Default Style".
Then change this new style's font to "Verdana". Note that this don't change
anything in your document as in german the default style is called "Standard".
4. Save the document as .ott.
5. Change interface language to English and restart office.
6. Open the .ott file. Your document default style now has "Verdana" set as
font.
