Tables are not shown because they are hidden.
They can be seen if Hidden removed from characters, or with Clear Direct
Formatting, or with Non-printing Characters on if Hidden Text checked in Tools
- Options - LibreOffice Writer - Formatting Aids (not by default). 

MSO needs to have only Non-printing Characters on, Word Options-Display has a
different logic that hidden text is included by default.

So, the remaining issue is why LO inherits this hidden status for tables from
the text, while MSO doesn't.
