As requested via comment #18, I confirm the bug behaviour after testing with LO
v.5.2.1.2 Portable under W7 64 bit. Nothing is changed, bug 100% in place.

Just tested with LibreOffice v. 4.4.2 Portable under Win7 64bit.

Yes Gordo, this should mimic what WORD is doing and will solve.
IMHO it WRITER could do better: show up a warning to the user, signaling the
problem and let the user be aware.
