No I won't, sorry. Please don't touch this bugs status again. I've both
explained and suggested places where to get more support if needed. I think -
only being active here for many years - that that is more than enough.

Where can the "Next Style" property turned of. I have neither found in the
documentation nor by searching through different menus. This is a testimonial
of a not working documentation since this is a key feature in the functionality
of writer.

Also I do not quite understand what you mean by "Conceptual there is no other
way to get a different header/footer then different other page settings"?

There is quite a good explanation by Zenaan Harkness on 2016-08-28 11:42:05
UTC. If you know how to approach this problem please edit the attached file so
each page can have an individual footer whilst preserving page format.

But because the problem is hard to describe the descriptions seem different but
we all mean the same thing.

And I did not ask for user help since:
1. This is an inherent feature and therefore needs the attention of devs
2. As Mr. Harkness did not know to do it either how would anybody who has
no long term experience find this out by him-/herself?

Also please excuse the change of the status but I received no notification of
your previous comment so I changed it back since I thought there was no
explanation for the change. In addition it is best practise to solve a Problem
in the bugtrackers' own system and not e.g. in the forums (But a link might be
sufficient). And there was no clear answer to that yet so the report should not
be closed until answer is given.

this whole report is a mixture of half clear explained continuously changing
wishes and needs in combination with not understand page styles functionality
in Writer.
- Next style property can be turned off.
- Conceptual there is no other way to get a different header/footer then
  - different other page setting
  - different left/right page setting
  - different page styles

Please make an dummy document (drawing that shows clearly how each page looks)
and ask for user help first.
Then if there might be a problem, you are able create a bug with a crisp and
clear explanation of the bug or the enhancement request. Thanks

Sorry, I should have added:
 - Insert > Manual page > Page style ...
or
 - cursor in first paragraph on page 6,
 - Format > Paragraph, tab Text flow ...

I guess the page style documentation gives some info - how else should I know

Fine too, but not here ;)
So please try one of the options here

If it's crisp and clear that your use case isn't supported, or broken, come

(Sorry if this comment appears twice - I tried replying to last comment as CC
email to me, hasn't turned up here...)

> Does this clarify the problem?

Yes thank you.

Specifically, I think I've been able to recreate your problem in a test
document - please tell me if this clearly describes your problem - I have tried
to create a document with 3 different page styles, one for first page, one for
pages 2 to 5, one for page 6 (and therefore subsequent pages):

I too cannot solve this problem. See attachment ODT above "page styles test
document demonstrating problem - FirstPage, Pages2To5, Pages6Plus (9.68 KB"

The attached example ODT file which demonstrates the problem:

 - there are 6 pages
 - each page is separated with a manual page break - CTRL+ENTER

 - page 1 has FirstPage page style - good

 - pages 2, 3, 4, 5 have Pages2to5 page style - good

 - page 6 at the moment has Pages2to5 page style

Now for the fun part - we want to apply page style called "Pages6Plus"
to page 6, but KEEP the page styles attached to pages 1 to 5.

When cursor is on page 6, and I show the page styles side bar, and I
then double click on page style "Pages6Plus", page 6 gets that new page
style, BUT, so do all of pages 1 to 5 as well!

This is definitely problematic.

If there is a hidden gui for applying page style Pages6Plus to page 6,
and KEEPING all the earlier page styles in tact (pages 1 to 5) we need
to know what that is, and it needs to be more obvious to the user (for
example, double clicking a page style, should apply that style to the
current page, regardless of the "style for next page" setting of the
previous page.

Otherwise, how are we supposed to apply a page style to say 350 pages?
(this is about to be a real example for me!) FOLLOWED by a DIFFERENT
page style for the SUBSEQUENT 650 pages!! - surely we are not supposed
to go to every page, and double click the same page style, over and over
again?!! That would be madness.

So I want that the first page has a footer, lets say Stlye Template a. But in
Libre Office there is a property of each style which automatically sets the
style for the naext page. So if I now want a different footer on the 2nd and
5th page and then the rest another style this can not be done without having to
make 4 styles for page 2 to 5 because if I set the following template in
template2 to template2 (since the same template should be on the next page too)
this will cause this template to be on all following pages since the property
of next style is inherited and therefore will set the 4th page also to
template2 etc. Until it reaches the last page.

My workaround was to create for page 2 and 5 each a different (but almost
identical) template. This way I can say that to template2 should follow
template3 and to that should follow the next template.

Solutions to that problem inculde:
- remove the "Next Style" feature completely (or it can be turned off at least)
- Style templates are assigned for a range of pages which will intelligently
expand if another page is inserted

Does this clarify the problem?

I don't understand the original posters problem properly:

- Is the footer on pages 2 to 5, the same? (besides say page # etc)

- Have you tried 3 page styles as follows:
* FirstPage page style for page 1
* MyFooter page style applied to each of pages 2 to 5
* MyRemainingPages style applied to pages 6 onwards

I would like to understand this problem properly, to help solve it.

Exactly. Or at least an option to disable the "Next Style" feature, so every

Ok, I mostly understand what you want.
For "footer the next 4 pages", do you manually copy the footer to each 4 pages,
like could be thought from your steps in comment 5? And this manual work is
frustrating you and you would like a range-based solution ("Style for the n
following pages")?

These are the steps I used in version 4.2.8.2:

1.At first I create blank 5 pages through manual brakes.
2.When cursor is in first page I press F11 and open the Styles and Formatting
dialogue box.
3.I select the Page Styles tab.
4.I double click the "First Page" style.
5.I then create a copy of that style by right-clicking on "First Page" and then
"Add"
6.I then select the "First Page" page style and modify it through selecting
modify in the right-click context menu.
7.In the "Organizer" tab I then select the new style as "Next Style"
8.I repeat this pattern for every page I need until all pages can share the
same style.

And sorry for confusing the names of styles etc. but there are so many and they
are all so similar. These should now be the correct names.

My problem is that I want a header at the front page, a footer the next 4 pages
and then a different footer the next few pages. This is not possible if I
assign each of the first 5 pages their on master template.

I want a feature that allows me to select --none-- as the following template.
This should completely ignore the template/layout from the next page.
