  Actually, simply posting a mail with [REVIEW-3-6-3] a11y fix - with a
link to the patch and a plea for a couple of reviews might have done it
  for you.

I'll keep the [REVIEW-3-6-3] a11y fix flag handy for the next round. But,
 I'm
not sure David and Stephan would consider it trivial given the way the
 Java
and UNO accessibility source was structured.

Moving ahead, what would -really- help would be to have more
 testing
bug reports against master - which (generally) is in quite a good state
vs. 3.6 and should be usable. Indeed, if people really want to be
connected to development, and have every one of their -regression- bugs
taken really seriously, talked through in the ESC calls etc. they need
to be filing them vs. master/3.7 - where the bugs are most easy to find
  and fix.

In fact, I have not yet tested this patch against a 3-7 build of master.

Problems with the daily TinderBox builds took the better part of two
 weeks
to get the initial commit for this issue tested. I had to ask to have it
 pushed
down on the -3-6 build for testing because there has not been a viable
 Windows
build of master complete in close to a month, Tinderbox 16 does not count
 as it is a
 minimal build.

Seems that if we are going to solicit more testing and bug reporting
 against the Windows
builds of master the MSVC and MinGW TinderBoxes need to be more closely
monitored and assistance rendered to assure viable testing can occur.

 Stuart

Either way, this have to be addressed ASAP. I need the 3.6 series for
accessibility
tests with Freedom Scientific JAWS and others. The testing is related to
usage
scenarios for members of the Norwegian Association of the Blind and
Partially
Sighted, so it's important.

Re: [Libreoffice-qa] Reporting Ignorant User on FDO?

2012-09-12 Thread Olav Dahlum
2012/9/12 Joel Madero jmadero@gmail.com

IMO we need to add a section to how to file a bug report that is labeled
what is not helpful or useful in there I could put

 1. Ranting about LibreOffice being slow to fix something
 2. Comparing us to Microsoft Office for no reason
 3. Being a total asshole (please excuse my language, I'd make it more
 professional on the wiki)

Then if we see these kinds of people we can just refer them to this
section in the wiki and I can avoid going to sleep angry ;)

 Joel

P.S. I see that him being an ass has made his bug move forward faster,
personally I think that gives mixed signals as to if he should just
continue making FDO his rant forum.

Not that I know of; sounds like we need one though :-)

I tend to not care much but this particular user pissed me off ...
there is a procedure and I'll deal with it.

Of course; fighting an ongoing war against crude and abusive
 filers and
their inevitable sock-puppets is going to be quite difficult IMHO. So -
I'd prefer to apply social pressure, angry people often storm off on
their own with a bit of that ;-) let me prod him again.

We should prolly fix the bug at some stage as well ;-)

I find the profanity in the bug report above quite amusing. Directness are
one thing,
acting nasty another. However, it's pretty much the same all over the
place, and answering
it with politeness can be effective. But some people are completely immune
to reasoning,
so in extreme cases only shutting them down work. More testing,
predictability, and fixing
bugs are required in order to minimize the ranting. Remember that users
seldom think the
changes we like are very interesting, as they really just want stability
and to continue their
work.

This is a good consideration, too, and implies that the best thing to

with the real work. Maybe this is the best way to proceed for now, but
I am not sure; I still worry about what the original bug reporters
will think about LibreOffice if the 1st answer they get is insulting ...

I suppose one way of countering that risk is to add a comment to the
same bug report that comes across as more helpful, whilst disagreeing
with the unpleasant or unwarranted comment. That way, the initial poster
will see that there is in fact a positive-minded community behind the
project (even if we can't help out, ultimately), and the
unpleasant/unwarranted commenter will stand corrected - beware of
 feeding the troll though ;-)

 Alex

Indeed, we can zero out the offending comments this way. There is clearly
an imminent need for behavioural improvements in this individual case, so
let's monitor any comments and reports from this person from now. I did
actually read posts where he gave positive feedback, so I wouldn't chuck
him out at his point.

 Hi,

for me that solution would be fine.

I really do have the same opinion as Rainer...

I vouch for this approach for now, however, let's make sure the file
names etc reflect
the state of the software. Freeing up the build system(s) for a final
release should be
the goal.

This should be fixed ASAP from a marketing point of view. It's all about
expectations, so renaming the tarball etc is just not good enough.
Leif did also receive a similar complaint earlier, so this should be
taken very seriously. This is not the first time I've addressed the
dangers of such practices.

Thanks you, Olav. I was starting to think I was the only mad person here.

Apparently even Cor finds this normal.

Cor, please show me ONE program that does this and I will agree with you.

This is completely absurd for me...

Keep in mind that most of us have done little marketing, so there's holes

Will the Bugzilla Assistant allow reporting without a BugZilla account and
actually be available from inside LibreOffice itself? This is crucial for
getting more people to report back. The current implementation might
make the standard BugZilla interface a bit more friendly, but it's still
a far
cry from a fully automated and integrated service.

Registering for yet an account puts even me off, but that's another
