Thank you for checking! I've disabled it for now, and will enable again
when the mirrors are populated + the RC2 is on pre-releases.

Works now officially with RC2.

It does indeed. But the Update message is still confusing...

LibreOffice 3.5.1 RC2 is available.

The installed version is LibreOffice 3.5.1.

Why would someone who already has version 3.5.1 would want to update to an
RC release? :)

It should report 3.5.1.2 is available. Even if the RC reference is lost
(and this seems to be inevitable since any RC can become a Final version and
I think TDF doesn't want another 3.5.0rc3 version ever again) at least it
makes sense as an update i.e. x.y.z.w to x.y.z.(w+1)

I would like to suggest (again) that the installer for RC versions is named
x.y.z.wRC so that there is some common element between the installer and the
About box.

E.g. LibO_3.5.1rc2_Win_x86_install_multi renamed to
LibO_3.5.1.2rc_Win_x86_install_multi

When an RC build is promoted to Final, you just need to rename the
installer. There is no change to the About box.

This means that any user can be aware that he is installing an RC version
and the name matches the About box (even if the RC reference is lost).

No, it should do nothing - from the end user point of view.

For a 3.5.1 instal it should only report when a 3.5.2 (final!) update is
available.

(So the test is not passed in my eyes)

Or does the notifyer behave different in RCs? (If so, it's not an RC!)

From an end user point of view that makes sense.

But then for QA and Beta Testers it should also report Beta and RC updates.

Maybe LO should have a Beta channel and a Release channel (like Mozilla?)

It is not LibreOffice that is different here, it is the response it
gets from the update-server.

Each published version has a different version identifier. Whether
that version is flagged as final version or not is what matters, and
that of course can be done on the update-server.

rc, beta, final - all send a request like I'm LibreOffice version,
the os version, in language, tell me whether there is an update.
And the update-server looks up version and decides whether one of the
available versions match as an update. And either responds with no,
no update for you, or yes, there is an update, details here

So in a way you are contradicting yourself here anyway, you assume
that it is LibreOffice that behaves differently, and demand that newer
RCs are only advertised to previous RCs, but at the same time demand
that the RC would not behave differently as the final version (which
is always the case, as the last rc is just renamed to final with no
changes). This won't work. But as written above: it is the server that
makes the decision whether there is an update, not LibreOffice.
LibreOffice just displays the server's response.

ciao

So the server response needs to be fixed to properly identify my current RC1
as 3.5.1.1?

If LO sets two update channels the server would only report updates at (or
even display) the w level (using the x.y.z.w naming) to those who
deliberately choose to be on the Beta channel and would report only higher
updates to all other users.

Can this be done?
