[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 54169] LibO doesn’t obey OS setting “only show the accelerator underline when the Alt key is being pressed”

--- Comment #35 from abhilash300si...@gmail.com ---
I'm looking back at the issue. Until then, the patch should be reverted or,
Luke, you can turn on your "make keyboard easier to use" accessibility option,
and LO should show accelerators all the time, which it seems, is the only thing
that this patch handles.

Thanks.

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 54169] LibO doesn’t obey OS setting “only show the accelerator underline when the Alt key is being pressed”

2016-12-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54169

Some commit in this range
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/?qt=range=+83c6c871db3eb11e284909902e0dc639e9753136..a238c829b209d0708714aa753fb686525411825f

Has been turned LO into mouse-only application under Windows. All of my muscle
memory commands, such as ALT-F,S, ALT-F,X, D. etc do not work anymore. This
makes LO unable for keyboard users such as myself.

Abhilash Singh,
Do you understand that hiding the "accelerator underline" does not disable the
accelerator itself? It just hides it until the ALT key is pressed. Use any
windows app from Notepad to Word and you will see that pressing Alt makes the
underline appear and all the shortcuts work even though their "hint" is not
displayed until the alt key is pressed. This is how every Windows Application
functions.

The intent of this bug report is to make Windows LOOK like these other
applications. Not disable all accelerators.

Noel, Samuel, or Abhilash
Can you please revert this commit ASAP as
 a) it doesn’t actually solve Bug 54169 and
 b) it makes LO unusable for keyboard people

I would talk to the designers about getting a high-res splash screen.

You could also just whip up one yourself, so you can do all your coding and
testing with it you are waiting for an official one from them.

Also, builds from 5.2.0 through current 5.4.0/master TB builds include work
done on bug 97425 - JVM start parameters should be editable. Please test a
more recent build than 5.1 branch which is reaching EOL.

On Windows 10 Pro with current TB master

Tools -> Options -> Advanced: Java Options -> Parameters button

With the Java Start Parameters dialog OPs comments as to inability to
dynamically edit a full set of start parameters are valid.

However see no compelling reason to change the provided GUI editor for what are
largely static settings--tuned one parameter at a time. The UI is functional to
task, which is setting and tuning per user JVM parameters to profile.

Also, when set, the Java start Parameters are recorded into user/config
javasettings xml in the stanzas:

/param>

They can be more directly edited there with a text or xml editor.

The Benjamin user is unlikely to ever make changes to their JRE settings, and
the Eve user would find the existing dialog(s) consistent with other
configuration dialogs (those that have not been moved to expert configuration).

Devs and the uncommon user with specialized Java requirements can edit their
configuration directly.

So again no compelling reason to change GUI for the provided Java Start
Parameter dialog(s).

=-=-

The local help / online help articles are accurate with exception that the
"Assign" button was renamed "Add"

=-=-

Believe the "double backslashes" showing in the example in the dialog is an
error in the dialogs .ui configuration file:

http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/cui/uiconfig/ui/javastartparametersdialog.ui#159

will need to correct that.

As the name TOC says it's used to list the whole content (with a limitation for
those users who weirdly structure their documents with more than four levels).
But introducing a 'from' option violates the core idea.

So why don't you go with an alphabetical or user-defined index? That requires
to explicitly link a heading to the index but it has all flexibility you want.

You can delete an image from the gallery at the new area fill style dialog
using the context menu. But you are right that there is the need for
temporarily add images.
