[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 87787] Improve cell border assignment

2017-05-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87787

The core issue is still present in the most recent 5.3 release

1. add a bottom border to Cell 1A
2. right click Cell 2A and choose Format Cells ...

bug: the border applied in step 1 cannot be edited in spite of the fact that
there is no functional distinction between a bottom border of 1A and a top
border of 2A.

3. ask a friend to look at your spreadsheet and edit the border - he/she will
only pick the correct cell 50% of the time

bug: This is just wrong. This kind of thing is precisely why Excel is so bad
and why there's so much demand for a smarter program like Calc.

Also note that to test these steps I had to wait about 15 seconds for the
Format Cells dialog to be drawn.

Page 13:
"When the selected cells have different styles of border the User-defined area
shows the border as a gray line. You can click on the gray line to choose a new
border style (first click), leave the border as it is (second click) or delete
the border (third click)."

Could it be made somehow more obvious? Personally, this is news to me. Let's
circle this through the UX meatgrinder.

Default actions should always be available in context menus and just disabled
in case it's not possible to execute. Don't know we should forbid to delete
tables via the Navigator, for instance.

With topics I meant chapters and subchapters.

I had several subchapters with 1500 pages of data each.

In M$ Word 2016 I just right-clicked in the navigator and selected "delete".

Hi Marco,

thanks for the report.

What ate 'topics' for you? You mean chapters, or also other elements (frames,
tables, images, ..) ?
And what about Calc, Impress?

Set to new - more discussion needed.
