Jim, thanks for a nice proposal. I would delete a word "selection" from labels
in statusbar. Let's it will be just words "Standard", "Extending", "Adding" and
"Block" as I wrote in description. With it we save some horizontal space as
want V Stuart Foote

Roman, *

Jim as usual hits the request, but is the UI best served by adding textual
labeling to the Status bar?

The labeling, especially whe translated, is going to suck up a lot of
horizontal width on the Status bar--which is always space constrained.

The meaning of the current multi-mode selection Icon is functional--but better
is concise. And, we can determine mode with mouse-over tool-tip, or change
with r-mouse context menu.

If we are to make any visual change--we'd be better served with a set of icons
for the modes (but difficult to capture iconography for use on the Status bar
as these are minimal size icons).

All that said, I don't think this is the best way to adjust things.

Stuart

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 134529] [ENHANCEMENT] Save Solver configurations into the ODS file for each sheet

2021-03-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=134529

(In reply to Buovjaga from comment #1)
> Solver is an extension. I'm not sure how to treat this. Asking design team
> for help.

Actually, only the Non-Linear solver is implemented as an extension, which is
installed by default.

The linear solvers and the swarm solver are implemented in C++. The solvers are
located in the following files:
 /core/hwpfilter/source/solver.cxx
 /core/sccomp/source/solver/LpsolveSolver.cxx
 /core/sccomp/source/solver/CoinMPSolver.cxx
 /core/sccomp/source/solver/SolverComponent.cxx
 /core/sccomp/source/solver/SwarmSolver.cxx

What needs to be done is to save, for each sheet, the solver configurations
filled in by the user, so that when the file is saved, closed, and reopened,
the settings can be recovered when the user goes to Tools -> Solver again.

In short, I'm proposing to implement the same method MS Excel uses to deal with
solver configuration.

I have a great interest in this being implemented, because I use the Solver all
the time in my classes. If someone can supervise/guide me, I volunteer to
implement this feature.

My main concern is how to save these settings in the ODF format.

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 140955] New: EDITING Highlight active autofilters dropdown

2021-03-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=140955

Bug ID: 140955
Summary: EDITING Highlight active autofilters dropdown
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: Inherited From OOo
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: needsUXEval
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-b...@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: libreoff...@nisz.hu
CC: libreoffice-ux-advise@lists.freedesktop.org,
nem...@numbertext.org, tund...@gmail.com
Blocks: 103512

This is a followup to bug #89841
Currently the active status of an autofilter is indicated by a blue dropdown
arrow in the cell, and blue row numbers; similar to what Excel does.

An interesting (also: easily implementable) idea came up in the discussion of
bug #89841: to make the whole dropdown blue, not only its arrow (which could be
made white to make it stand out), as seen on mockup image attachment #169363

This bug is for discussing/implementing this idea.

No further input, let's do it. If the description panel becomes a bit larger it
gets more attention. So let's make it a bit higher by default. And the issue
with strings not breaking correctly needs to be solved, of course.

Code pointer: sc/uiconfig/scalc/ui/functionpanel.ui
(needs a bit playing with the parameter since wordwrap is set correctly;
therefore medium difficulty)

Let's move the "(empty)" entry to the top.

Guess it's STR_EMPTYDATA, sorted with the other content in
sc/source/core/data/documen3.cxx at sortAndRemoveDuplicates(). But I have no
idea how to move this item on top of the list in an elegant way. And since
sortAndRemoveDuplicates() is used a few times across the app, it might also
have side-effects.
