And yes, I understand the seperate partition thing, except during the setup reboots, it offers Win98 or WinXP Setup, so I should think it COULD keep the multi-boot on one partition. [LIB] touchscreen files
Date: Wed, 18 Dec 2002 13:22:03 -0500 From: =?big5?B?oUVQcmVzIFdhdGVybWFuoUU=?= [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: touchscreen files I have successfully imported the touchscreen drivers on a Japanese Win95 Libretto 50m into an English Win98 environment. The only problem is the control panel is in Japanese with the predicatble problems looking at it in English Win98- it's all guesswork as to the functions. Because there are doubtless some settings regarding double-clicking and the valid area for clicking that are not optimized, it is not quite as nice as I remember it being in the Japanese environment but still very good. I am planning on using the L50M in the car with Street Atlas USA. The stylus/touchscreen seems much better than the standard display-mounted mouse in a moving car. I have also utilized Win98/IE6's feature of using single-click ( like a webpage ) rather than classic ( neeeding double-click ) to activate an icon. However, this makes right-clicking a problem. SHIFT-F10 makes a right-click once you highlight something, but I have no idea how to right-click on the touchscreen using the stylus. Additionally, Rex Perkins has written a very cool driver to make the Japanese buttons to the right and left of the spcebar, become the Windows and Menu ( right-click, or SHIFT-F10 ) buttons that are missing. I will post the files for the touchscreen and Rex's keyboard enhancer somewhere. Probably on the [EMAIL PROTECTED] files section. Or here if Daniel tells me how/where... But since it adds a system file, a certain .vxd then I guess it should be added, it somehow interfaces the HLB ( hairy light bulb ) and the OS. The FDD for Toshiba Libretto ( any series will work, apparently ) is necessary to boot. The reason is, it is not actually PCMCIA, it merely fits the PCMCIA socket. BIOS directly speaks to the floppy. Only later when the Windows/Linux is loaded does it become PCMCIA with proper drivers. The NEC Ready 120LT has its external floppy plugged into the parallel port, as another example of a BIOS-driven external floppy. But by looking at the header, I can see it originated from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] The attachment looks more like the Klez virus itself in a .scr file. I sent a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and received an automated reply saying that they would look into the problem. The note I sent Pres bounced back from his ISP saying that his mail quota there had been exceeded. Guess we know what that means. If someone knows another email address for him, maybe you could forward this to him, though my guess is he's already aware of the problem. [EMAIL PROTECTED] is an abandoned account. Furthermore, the way klez works is it takes someone's address book and spoofs addresses found withIN it as the from address. So it looks loke someone had my old address ( all it takes is the default put people I reply to in my address book setting to do that, and then they inadvertently passed on the klez. The mailbox full is indicative of the trash box I send every mail addressed to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to, is full itself. Once you get one end to separate, you can carefully pull each case half away from the other and split the case. (You may need to break the joints at both ends of the case with the tool for a clean separation.) This sounds crude, but it has worked well and avoids the marred seam lips that you get trying to pry the case apart. I don't agree. This method implies that once you have the ends spirited, keep pulling. The battery has tiny hooks all along the length that will break with this method. ______ _| |__| |___ if you don't mind them being broken ( I use various colored electrical tape to keep the battery together after opening ) then pry away! This is what I wrote: Hi. A few months back ( I think it was in December but I am looking through old feedback to see if we traded feedback ) I bought a Libretto 100 extended replacement battery on eBay. It is not discharged at this point and when powered up again it works until it suddenly powers of again. I do not have this problem as long as the A/C is plugged in. It happens when the laptop is moved but is very intermittent. I have checked for loose wires inside and cannot find any. Could I return the battery for evaluation? And just now, I received this response from a Mr. Thomas Vun: Dear Sir, I am so sorry for the problem that the battery is giving you. I am not sure if this is a battery or the notebook problem. If you have a friend using the same notebook you may let him use your battery to see if it give the same problem. Anywhere please let me know your shipping address again. I will send you another battery to try out. This battery will be sent to you FOC. Awaiting for your shipping address. Did you all get that? On my word, he is sending me a free replacement ahead of receiving the bad one. This is amazing customer service. This must be recognized! I will definitely tell everyone of this wonderful company any chance I get. Date: Fri, 26 Apr 2002 15:57:08 -0400 From: Pres Waterman [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Fw: [langalist] LangaList Standard Edition 2002-04-22 Here's a utility I intend to try with my Librettos. From LangaList. 5) Automatic Power-Off From DOS When you exit Windows, you have several choices. On newer PCs, this includes a total shut down where the system power goes off, just as if you'd pushed the power switch. DOS doesn't offer this. There are software tools to automate a reboot in DOS (see the free reboot tool at http://mindprod.com/products.html ), but--- until I got the following note--- I knew of no way to do an automatic, software-driven total power-off shutdown from DOS: Fred, PowerOff.exe is a 835 byte (less than 1KB!) file which will turn off the computer from DOS. It uses APM (Advanced Power Management) to work with the BIOS and actually power down the computer. It works in DOS the same as Shut Down does in Windows. Some users may find it useful for their clean- up batch files. It's freeware, available at http://elektron.et.tudelft.nl/~witteman/PowerOff.html I've looked and looked, and this is the only one of its kind I've been able to unearth.--- Bruce Fraser Thanks, Bruce! The developer says: Poweroff.exe is an MSDOS program that is able to shutdown the power of the latest ATX power supplies from the command line using the APM functionalities supplied by the motherboard BIOS. Poweroff.exe is to DOS, what Shutdown is to Win9x. But note that this software can only do what your hardware allows: On older PCs (where Windows gives a Safe To Turn Off message instead of turning the system all the way off on its own), this DOS software also probably won't be able to do a complete software-driven shut down. Older system hardware just isn't set up for that. But if Windows *can* turn off your PC all the way, then this software probably also will give you that ability from DOS. I have one for the 50... How can I help? Thanks Pres Waterman W2PW c/o Patchogue Motors, Inc. Long Island Ford and Kia dealer GO BILLS!
