I think your problem is related to your drivers rather than USB speed. The
driver that controls your USB to parallel port and your printer driver
capable of using such adapter (a lot of old printer drivers don't support
this).

[LIB] P-330 USB connection

2002-01-21 Thread Tina Bird

Subject: P-330 USB connection

So, does anyone out there have any ideas about
how to >slow down< a USB connection? I'm trying
to use this printer with my Libretto 1100, which
only does USB, to take advantage of the Smart Card
reader (and the fact that it's the 1100 that has
all my photo software on it). I'll continue
pursuing with Olympus, of course, but I suspect
there are more experts out here.

With the default settings for the printer driver
and the USB-to-parallel cable driver, I get no
indication that the printer is receiving any data
from the computer. Next, I've tried modifying
the driver settings for the cable to disable bidirectional
communications, and to really really long transmission
timeouts.

After this change, I do get activity from the printer --
the "printing" light blinks really optimistically, and
it sounds like the printing process starts (the paper
starts its printing process, but no ink is deposited).
Then after a couple of minutes I get an error indicating
that the printer is out of paper. Fascinating, captain,
since I've just reloaded all the paper.

Now, I'm about at the point of running the printer to my
L110 which has native parallel capabilities, and doing
something annoying like using IrDA to transfer pictures
between the machines -- but if anyone has any ideas about
this, I'd be >>much<< obliged.

Dear Tina:

Thank you for contacting Olympus Digital Technical Support in the United
States.

Olympus apologizes for not responding to your inquiry in a timely
manner, but unfortunately there has been a delay in our normal response
time. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope that you will
continue to support Olympus products in the future.

I am sorry for the frustration that this issue has caused you.
Unfortunately the P-330 is not designed to utilize the speed of USB and
may not work through a USB - Parallel adapter.

Thank You,

Toby L.

Comments :

My Libretto doesn't have a parallel port, so I bought a USB-to-parallel
cable. The printer and driver have installed without error, but when I
try
to print an image, there's no sign of activity on the printer (errors,
printing or otherwise), and I keep getting the "Olympus P-330 Language
Monitor" popping up and then disappearing, without ever showing any
progress. The documentation is really really awful (I am a sys admin by
profession, so I read a lot of doc, and the stuff that came with this
printer is awful even for computer documentation). How do I
troubleshoot
this?
