why would that be necessary? We have a git mirror on github,
organized/owned as github.com/Ardour/... with certain github users
authorized to have higher level access to it.

It's a mirror, not a main central repository. If it's even possible to
push directly to that mirror, it would be very confusing for some GNOME
projects to be mirrored and some not.

Actually, most GNOME developers seem to wish that the mirror didn't
exist, particularly as we cannot tell people not to create pull
requests there until they've already done so.

And GNOME isn't unlikely to really start using github now that they
have their own gitlab.


Why not have https://github.com/libsigc or somesuch?
