I think the socks5 support hasn't been maintained for a while (someone
correct me if i'm wrong).
I just use runsocks program (freely available from NEC, and I think
there is another prog that is similar which is GPL) to launch licq,
works perfectly for me.

Sorry about the openssl, I had the same problem with a redhat 9 base
install (licq not recognising the openssl libs/includes), I compiled the
latest openssl with --prefix=/usr and without (i think /usr/local) and
had no problems after that.
