Can anyone tell me why this code places all of the lyrics under the
highvoice staff instead of each set of lyrics under its own staff?

... hi I was just looking around for some Linux software to typeset
the music to a Christmas song I am writing and came across LilyPond.
I was flabberghasted w/ the apparent quality of the software and I'm
looking forward to using it.

It looks as if LaTeX finds an old copy of the file lilyponddefs.tex.
If you issue the command 'kpsewhich lilyponddefs.tex, you'll find
out which file LaTeX finds. Make sure that it belongs to your
current Lilypond version. Also, rerun 'texhash' to make sure that
the file name database used by LaTeX
