I have tried to install versions 1.8.2, 2.0.1 and 2.1.1 of Lilypond and
faces the same problem each time. I used Mandrake's RPM files prepared
by Thac (http://rpm.nyvalls.se) for Mandrake 9.2. Once installed,I can
run
$lilypond -h
but other commands using lilypond gives the following error
Sorry to have bothered you. I installed libguile...devel (not in my
default Mandrake install) and all went fine.

Why is this dependency missing from the mandrake package, that looks
like a packaging bug.
