By chance, I had this bug too.
It seems to be raised by the \laisserVibrer tie. Since, when I remove
it, the error disappear.
But this is a random bug and as soon as I try to insulate it... it vanishes

Your \score{...} block contains a \midi but no \layout, so LilyPond
will only
produce a MIDI file, no PDF file for your example. Are you sure that you
didn't look at an old version of the PDF? When I add a \layout{} block, I
certainly get a metronome mark in the PDF.

However, in the output the two notes seem to overlap (not only the
vertical bars around them but also the noteheads). This also happens
with normal whole notes but not with half notes or shorter durations.
Is this intended or is it a bug?
I think it is a many-years-old bug.

Why is layout block needed in the score block if there is also a midi
block? If you remove the midi block, you get the PDF. It is very
inconsistent behaviour. There was a discussion years ago about this, I
don't remember its end.

One good reason is if you want different versions of the score in the
PDF and
in the MIDI, for example if you want to expand all repeats in the MIDI or
if you want to workaround the limitation that the maximum number of
MIDI tracks (corresponding to Staff contexts in LilyPond) is limited.
Then,
I feel it very counter-intuitive.
You create a simple score - get a PDF. Add a simple MIDI block - you
lose the PDF. Why?
Let's suppose the new user wants a way to create a MIDI. He looks at the

Is there a way to specify the ouput filename for a midi file within a midi

As far as I know, there is no such feature. If you have several

No, it is not. Is there another possibility than just encode the whole
thing as UTF-8?

It's nothing difficult, just a matter of telling your text editor to
save the file
using UTF-8 encoding. If you cannot figure it out yourself, just send a
question
to the mailing list, telling what text editor you are using.

From the WinEdt help:
WinEdt is an ASCII and not a UNICODE application.
That's your problem. (My problem too, I've been using Winedt for LaTeX
for over 5 years now.) Try jEdit with the Lily plugin, it is clearly
better than Winedt. (Maybe also for TeX?)
Hope this helps,

then you should go shopping for a better editor IMO

I have very good experience with Jedit. It runs on any platform.
Together with the excellent Lilypond Tool for Jedit from Bertalan Fodor you
get very nice features like syntax checking etc.
And it can save the file UTF-8 encoded.
All about the editor and the newest version of the plug-in is
Now a good version of LilyPondTool is released in the Plugin Manager of
jEdit, so you can safely install from there.
So just download jEdit 4.3pre9 (http://www.jedit.org - get the latest
development version), go to Plugin Manager Install LilyPondTool.
Check the Plugin options after install
