2. How do I make sure that the first line is not indented? I've used
LaTeX in the past, and figured the \noindent command should go somewhere,
but can't seem to figure

I apologize for being late with this response. I have been spending
a bit of time analyzing the gcc 3.0 issue, and collecting opinions
of colleagues.
In the opinion of people that I know and trust in the Linux community,
gcc 3.0 is much stricter than either 2.95.3 or the "Red Hat gcc"(which

Hello,
A bit more text to my previous mail: ly2dvi first calls lilypond which
exports (la)tex code which is then processed by LaTeX.
So in all quoted text strings in your Lilypond code you should be aware of
the latex special symbols (#, $, %, ~, &, _, ^, \, {, } or hash/pound,
dollar, percent,
Hello!
I'm trying to get lilypond up and running on my linux box (Ive installed and
used an old version on a previos linux machine). I've installed guile V1.4
without incedent, but when I try compiling lilypond I get some undefined
symbols which I assume should be coming from libguile:

I could reproduce this error. When I changed the title "Devienne #1" into
"Devienne \#1" it went away. The resulting dvi file (and
postscript) looked like playable music.

Thanks for the suggestions - however, the ly2dvi does not seem to be
happy with my format

AFAIK the recommended way to get postscript output is a twostep process:
ly2dvi Devienne_1.ly
dvips Devienne_1.dvi -o Devienne_1.ps
(the "-o file.ps" is usually not necessary but with some implementatio
First of all, I'm a complete lilypond newbie (just started using last
night) but I was hoping that perhaps somebody could point out what I'm
doing wrong here.
I've attached a .ly file. Note that the first note is intended to be
marked mf. However, when I render it with:
lilypond -f ps Devienn
Hi David,
did you already try replacing

and

by something like
\context Lyrics = "Desc" \DesText
and
\context Lyrics = "Treb" \DesText
respectively?

I'm a new lilypond user. I ran across some hand-written music recently, and
wanted to typeset it. Only I've run into a rather frustrating problem.
This is a song with both regular lyrics and a descant. I've been trying to
set up the music so that the music shows (starting from the top) guit
