Yesterday i have also installed on a spair Hard Disk Ubuntu 7.04 and Linrad (both releases 02.34 and 02.35). I have used the last available OSS (1004) and from my side has never been so easy to install and start. Unfortunately Jeff i don't understand why you have this error. Just a question/suggestion: have you installed the OSS from the console (CTRL+ALT+F1 from the terminal)?
Now i have both, Ubuntu 6.10 and 7.04 running correctly.
