Because you are on a digest, which can send up to a day later, if not
more. The original was send at 17:00 on the day of the event, which is
admittedly a bit late...

Probably because you appear to be getting the daily digest rather than getting
the mail as its sent.
The timestamp on my reminder was Thursday, September 6, 2012 5:07:21 PM.
