[OCLUG-Tech] July Meeting: 20160707

2016-07-06 Thread Scott Murphy
Location: Woodroffe Campus, Algonquin College - Building T, Room T-327

NOTE: For those who have not noticed, the room has changed to T-327

Tonight we will have three presentations, the one on black box recorders and
the dashing dashboard from last month and a pine64 demonstration.

There will be a one hour pre-meeting item from 18:00 to 19:00 for people who
are new to Linux, have general questions, or wish to help out with people who
are just getting started.

After the meeting, there will be a social event at one of the nearby pubs or
restaurants. A short discussion and vote as to location will be taken then.

After the talks, there will be the opportunity for a GPG key signing. This is a
monthly offering, just look for Scott after the talk and we can go from there.
Bring some kind of photo ID and some keyslips if you expect people to sign your
key.If you need some method of creating pages of keyslips, there is an online
slip generator available at http://openpgp.quelltextlich.at/slip.html.

Reminder: LITW is Sunday, July 17 @ 1:00 in Strathcona Park.

Note: We are always soliciting speakers for a talk, so if you have an idea or
have something to talk about, let one of the board members know and we will

Re: [OCLUG-Tech] Possible topic for presentation tomorrow night

2016-07-06 Thread jf

Good. I'll try to make a *short* presentation as well, à la Powerpoint.

Quoting Scott Murphy :

Sounds good to me. I’m pretty sure there will be interest.

I know this is quite late for such announcement, but I just found out
now that I will have the car to attend tomorrow's meeting.

If there is time for this, I could present, all interactively, the new
Pine64 board, that was put on Kickstarter.com sometime ago already. I
received it not long ago and got it working with Remix OS 2 as well as
Android X86, both running under Linux, as everyone knows.

I have the board and two microSd cards that have the software
installed. If I could start from USB, I would also have some Linux
Distro, but this is not possible yet.

The Linux distro that I played with has been erased to put Remix OS on
it.

I know I can attend the meeting tomorrow night (July 7th), but I am
unsure about August or other months after, since my son will likely
need a ride for his sport events.

Just let me know if this is something of interest.
If there is a demand, I will wipe Android X86 for Linux Mate, although
it's not perfect yet.

[OCLUG-Tech] anyone have experience porting C# .NET app to linux?

2016-07-06 Thread Robert P. J. Day

a client who wants some training in moving from WEC7 (windows
embedded compact 7) to linux has an app already written for WEC7,
completed in C# .NET. anyone have experience taking a working app
through that kind of transition, i'm assuming with mono?

pointers to guides online would be just ducky. depending on the work
involved, there might be some consulting work here, but i can't make
that kind of promise.
