I did install Linux in different ways over the last year on Chromebooks.
One of them is known as Crouton. There is also, I think, Chrubuntu,
which is an implementation of an older Ubuntu for some Chromebooks.
Crouton does not need this, however, as it installs itself

Yes, very good point. Although the TCP/IP stack and principles may be
well known, the wireless aspect is still (at least for me) complex. I
still have some problems with mine, and I don't know enough to diagnose
whether the problem is the router or its location.

I like reading several books about some programming of one kind or another. I
have all new books in electronic format and again, for XMas, I got a printed
book, and the giver offered me the option of actually having it in Ebook

The topic of the book definitely
Do we know where the meeting will be held and what the topics will be ?

I actually have a Chromebook (Samsung). It has an HDMI port so I can
connect it to the large display. Anyone interested to see what it looks
like, or to see how we can put Linux on it?

I personnally purchase several books, actually eBooks, on different

The next thing to do, (and I *always* do this before doing anything else
with a new distro,) is to test it in Live mode. Boot from the USB key or
a CD (if you still burn those things). Can you access all your hardare
devices, networking, and what not ? If so, there is a better chance it

If you are using high-quality speakers / headphones, a lossless ripping
might be more important. If this is something for backgrond sound /

which is perhaps the most popular format for music players, including
iPods, you can still

Given my background in IT security, one of the myths I saw about
OpenSource (at least in large corporate offices) is that it is less
secure and dangerous. Because of the other myths previously mentioned,
IT security people who only work in the closed source world see the

Actually, this is something that we did not hear about for a while now.
I would also be interested to see some presentation about PGP and
cryptography under Linux for an end-user, or one who is not the most
technically oriented. I used PDP back in the command-line time, but

For those interested, tomorrow (May 4) is International Day Against DRM

could, please take some sort of action to raise awareness of how DRM is
bad. This could be as simple as a blog post against DRM on your blog, or

need to pay for, or what is proprietary and what is not. Clearly, it
uses Linux as the base to run everything, but they still ask for money,
