Hello list
we are running SLES8 (and SLES9) under zVM 4.4 and zVM 5.1. Last weekend we
were in trouble and had to move a SLES8 image from a 9672 to a z890 (OSA
Express). As all dasd devices were shared between the machines both zVM had the
same definitions available.
The problem was to change

1. Should be fine for a basic server. If you load up a bunch of X-based
stuff, you may start running out of room.
2. Are you using lvm? If so, see e2fsadm. If not, I use parted to resize the
underlying partition, then resize2fs to resize the filesystem itself.

1. It all depends.
31 bit SUSE 9.0 will install on a single 3390-3 pack.
But...
1a. This doesn't allow for much swap area.
1b. It doesn't allow for a major application such as DB2, Oracle, Websphere
etc.
1c. Really doesn't allow for putting on service, but if you have the service

Hello all.
I have a problem related to the device mapper.
I am running SLES 9 with SP2 on a z890 on VM. In one of my images I am
getting an error at boot when the system tries to activate the device
mapper. The exact message is:

Hi everyone,

Something like this absolutely requires that you file a support incident
with SUSE. They're the only ones that are going to be able to figure
out why things are segfaulting and provided a solution that they'll
support.
You could try running an rpm -V command against the RPMs that contain

Hmm. Let's see... SUSE, a company based in Germany is producing
software that defaults to using German... Sounds like a bug to me! :)
No, it's not a problem. If you want to specify -l en_us you can do
so, but it won't change what the command actually does to the system.

Thanks Mark. I think I have determined that it is the command that is
having the problem. At boot it fails on the first modprobe command and
I get a segmentation fault from the command line with modprobe. Also,
insmod works just fine in loading the module.
If I get a solution from SUSE I will

Johnny Hughes certainly has far more patience than I do. After the

Mr. Taylor,
You are an idiot. Please contact the FBI, and let them explain to you
why you are an idiot.

Do you think it's a good idea,
Marist has a job opening for someone with Linux experience, especially
Linux on zSeries (we have over 500 servers). If you are interested,

I downloaded and installed cpint 2.5.3 on SuSE9 s/390 Linux guest. Looks
like the install went OK. But when I issue
hcp cp send zlt1 q name
I get the response

Looks like the cpcmd device is in place.
