Hi,
on linux-fai-devel I've initiated a discussion of a new new disk configuration
utility. You can find the thread at
http://www.uni-koeln.de/bin2/maillist/linux-fai-devel/20060429.151232/171697
if you aren't subscribed to linux-fai-devel. Any input is highly appreciated!

Hi!
I'm installing Hoary clients using FAI and have a problem with
xserver-xorg and /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
The config file doesn't contain these lines into the Monitor section:

VertRefresh 50-160
It's very strange because debconf keys are correctly filled af

The docs say that I should use a hook to configure the disks and
partitions if the existing disk configuration code is not usable. I
think the right thing to do is to write a hook to synthesize a
disk_config definition based on which disks are discovered. It would

Use a hook which calls fcopy to copy these files. See fcopy(1) for

This is not a bug, it's a feature! Fix the entiries in your DHCP or
BOOTP server. Why should a YPDOMAIN be defined, if you do not want to
be a NIS client?

You could do that to, but you need to somehow get NONIS defined. If
you do this in the dhcpd.conf file by setting 'option nis-domain' to

Why not just modify S24nis.sh to set $YPDOMAIN="" if NONIS is defined?
Maybe something like this would work:
ifclass NONIS && YPDOMAIN=""
Then you could set NONIS in the S01alias.sh (or any other script
S02 - S23) and prevent NIS from being configured.

I'm curious, why would this be bad? If you have YPDOMAIN defined,
then wouldn't you *want* NIS? If you don't want NIS, then don't
define YPDOMAIN. Would
Yah, it's too bad the NIS gets defined if YPDOMAIN is defined.
I had to create a /fai/class/S25nis.source that says:
#
# Fix situation where a machine is being setup in an environment
# that has NIS but where we don't want it defined.
#
ifclass NONIS && {
ifclass NIS && {

Hi,
Can someone explain how the NIS configuration is intended to work?
fai/class/S24nis.sh first checks if a variable $YPDOMAIN is defined and if
it is then defines the NIS class. If classes are defined before
variables, then how is this supposed to work?

I'm a FAI-Newbie with a little problem:
My clients stops after they print out the partition table of the disks.
An error followed: "no /etc/fstab found". They don't partition the disk
and i guess the error message is the outcome of this.
What am I doing wrong that no partitioning will be

To suppress the configuration of ispell (selection of default language), use
mkdivert /usr/sbin/update-ispell-dictionary

No not yet. You can use mkdivert to fake the configuration command,
like apacheconfig, or install these packages not using package_config

How can I manage it ?
