ALSA+Fedora core 2

Hi all, i have Fedora core 2, it has alsa utils already in it, but the sound card on my ASUS motherboard wasn't detected properly, how can i "activate" alsa to detect it? there is no alsaconf, alsaconfig binary anywhere on the system. thanks.
