Hi,
I did a major research about this topic:
Hardware:
External 3Com(USR) Modem Serial or USB you might be able to get
some dealer to order it for you.
They also have a hardware PCI, but no one bring it to Israel ( as far as I
know).
Zoom USB and Zoom PCI hardware, both can be ordered

I use a Dynamode 56K ISA modem. They may still have them. If you have an ISA
slot, it's the safest way to go ... (I also learned the hard way!)

Where can I buy in Israel a Linux compatible modem--
Dynamode, an Israeli board assembly house, used to sell 56K PCI hardware
only modems with a rockwell chipsets that worked well under linux. these
weren't chip - around 300NIS, but they worked great. I do not know what is
the current state of such a device - the dynamode web site still lists them
And 2 months ago I bought a Dynamode winmodem only to find out it's not
working nor with my Linux and not even with Windows (I specially installed
Windows just to test it) - I replaced the modem with 3 other modems from the
same model - with the same error (well, their support guy didn't know

if you're into analog modem,
the best solution is a hardware modem
(there's plenty of v.90 supporting hardware modems)
as for the software modems - just refer to the
site about linmodem (google search)
and see what has the warmest replies.
choose simply the modems that are supported by the latest
Thanks, but:
I already saw some linmodem sites (with specifications and all) BUT,
I need a modem (even a hardware one) that I could be bought
from a store here (even if it is in Eilat :) .

Hi
I am quite happy with my no-name Winmodem, based on PCTel chipset
PCT789 (others by PCTel also work, but check before you buy, here

I bought mine in MACHSANEI HAMACHSHEV, near KANYON AYALON,
for 100 NIS, around half a year ago. I believe other
