I have a Matrox G200 card, and I'm using Linux Slackware. I am almost
positive I configured everything right. Yet, each time I try to create
the server it gives me a weird erro message which goes something like:

Do 2 simple tests:
1. comment (#) all your fonts
2. try to run just X - not startx
3. remove any .X files you got (.Xsessions, etc..)
If 2 works, then you have problems with fonts..
if after that you have problem - re-install your X server from your package.

I was asked to recommned a good Linux C/C++ IDE for a colleage who is trying
to evalutae the effort of porting a large scale product to Linux.
They have already tried KDevelop but its not very impressive compared to the
IDE they are (sooo) used to - MS Visual Studio.

Try RiverWind's Sniff++. It's a very good IDE, but as expected, not free. If
you find a free IDE as good as this, please let me know. C-forge is also
kind of nice, but the interface is not so friendly (for my taste).

I have been searching for one some time. The bes one I found (by far) was
RiverWinds' Sniff++, with many features and good interface, but of course,
it's not free. If you find a FREE IDE somewhere, please let me know.

Are you sure they tested with KDevelop 1.4? I am told that prior
versions were really not that impressive, but that
Tried KDE Studio?
The KDE studio is free. The Gold edition costs $35 dollars but it comes with
kernel docs and glibc docs.. could be useful for the large project port..
