make sure that you compiled with knfsd support, IIRC kernels
come with it disabled and if you use menuconfig/xconfig/config
it won't appear unless allowing experimental code.

monitor's specs and get a better "modeline". It applies only to modern
monitors (as I recall, there is documentation online), and helped me
