Re: 2.6.23.14 snd_hda_intel problem
Clemens My /etc/modprobe.conf now contains: alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel options snd-card-0 index=0 options snd-hda-intel index=0 and and I should add options snd-usb-audio index=1 right? Any idea why has this changed between the two minor kernel revisions though? Thanks Eyal Clemens Ladisch wrote: Eyal Lebedinsky wrote: A recent update to 2.6.23.14-64.fc7 lost sound. bt8xxx would not reset properly
I have a bt848 based TV tuner (see bootlog below) which sometimes goes on the blink (see failure log below). It will not reset, and a reboot does not fix it. I need to cycle the power to get it back online. I know that 2.6.10 and 2.6.11-rc4 did not restore operation when booted, and I recall this even on earlier kernels. I wonder if the reset process is not as extensive as it should be. Naturally, it is possible that the card, when it fails, is in a state where a reset is just not possible. It will be nice if this can be improved though. Boot log bttv: driver version 0.9.15 loaded bttv: using 8 buffers with 2080k (520 pages) each for capture bttv: Bt8xx card found (0). 2.6.11-rc3: bttv oops [resend]
In MythTV I switched between cards ('Y'). When I switched out of a DVB card into the analog card I got no signal. The system started responding slowly (long pauses) and after a while it locked up. Attached in the serial line log of the session, including SysRq task dump. I should say that I noticed similar system loss of response earlier (while running -rc2) without a full lockup, and then decided to reboot (-rc3). Suspecting the video system, I tested all three tuners (2 DVB and one analog) and got the pauses, then finally the lockup after about a minute (or less). The log for this session is attached. My feeling is that the analog tuner has a real problem (either a bug of just not enough signal) which is tolerated for a while but soon the kernel fails. -- Eyal Lebedinsky ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) <http://samba.org/eyal/> attach .zip as .dat oops.log.bz2 Description: Binary data

Eric, I found myself in similar situations in the past, and my solution was to establish a small file of "do not report" symbols. I then use this file to avoid reporting problems with items that I know are being handled or are known false positives. Yes, it is not automagic, but it does do the job. The file might also include private notes as to the status of each excluded symbol. -- Eyal Lebedinsky ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) <http://samba.anu.edu.au/eyal/> - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-kernel" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] More majordomo info at http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-info.html Please read the FAQ at http://www.tux.org/lkml/

It seems that someone thinks Debian has db3 (it does not, at least not the stable release which is all that matters). I already had two links: /usr/lib/libdb.so -> /usr/lib/libdb2.so /usr/include/db -> /usr/include/db2 that made it work for the last few patches - why break it now? Of course, the best thing is to remove the whole db3 dependancy from the kernel build and leave it in a special driver developer rule.

If that fails, I have something different with ppp on 2.4.0-test10. I very often get the ppp link up, I can ping the ISP end of the connection, but nothing else. All the pppd messages look just fine coming up. I called the ISP tech support and they say my connection is not showing as active on their end.
