Hello George, I did the original support for the PCTV 800e. I just checked out the v4l-dvb latest code and tried it out, and everything looks ok from here (confirming there was no regression). >From the dmesg output you sent, it looks like the tvp5150 video decoder was not detected. Could you please unplug/replug the device again send the dmesg again. Also, have you tried it under Windows to confirm the hardware is not defective?
