Hans,
The inline source file at the end of this post is a small program I used
to play with libudev to see if it would complement the media controller
concept (as you suspected it would).
Documentation on the libudev calls is here:

hello
I had my Pinnacle PCTV 50i analog tv card working quite well for several years
with linux . but since mid june it can not tune anymore when using the latest
mercurial version
of the v4l2 drivers .
It is working fine up to the official V4l2 driver of 2.6.30 .
here is an example of /var

Hi,
I've put together a scan file for my local DVB-T stations, covering the
Wide Bay/Fraser Coast region. As far as I've been able to tell,
this file works fine and covers all the locally available transponders.
Feel free to add it to the rest.
Thanks

Please note that the current (not split-up) driver was developed by the
maker of the hardware.
It is the same code that is used in the Windows driver.
As far as I have seen, there is only ONE callback from the tuner code to
the demodulator.
I forgot the name of the routine.
Cheers,
Dear Linux Media people,
I've struggled to tune various DVB-T devices in Mitcham South Australia.
Mitcham is in the foothills area of Adelaide without a clear line of
sight to the main Mt Lofty transmission towers. The tuning wizards, for
instance in me-tv, only display a single location file
