Thanks for both responses. However, I cannot ping by IP (which is what
I've been trying to do). It seems strange to me that this doesn't work.
I've networked numerous Solaris clients/Dec UNIX clients in much the
same way without any problems, but I can't figure out how to get this
gosh darn win98 box to work on my Linux network. Of course, it's my only
client, so maybe the Linux box is screwy, too.

If there's a faq on networking linux and win98 clients, please forward
me the URL. Of course, if you can forward me the steps to take to make
this happen, that would be cool too.

Thanks again -

Andy

P.S. Doh! I should've known the ".sam" extension was an abbreviation for
"sample"!

More info:

* On Kernel 2.0.34 , 3Com's 905 cards works well, 905B doesn't.
* We've setup a "light" kernel, without protocols and with 3c59x as a module
or
not... without better results...
* We've tried with a Macromate's card (10 Mb/s, Ne2000 compatible) and there
are still problems.

And I ask you:

is it possible that network tools give me wrong statistics?

I say this because there isn't an upgrade for network tools with 5.2.2
kernel.

There is someone out there that can help me?

Thanks in advance, best regards,

Octavio Ruiz.

Hello
    I'm getting closer to logging in to my ISP, but not quite.

Below is what came out of /var/log/messages

Serail Connection established
Using interface ppp0
Connect : ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS1
Hangup (SIGHUP)
Modem hang up

Exit.

It seems as though my authentification is falling down some where. I
notice the modem send light flashes every couple of seconds or so.

Here are the scripts I am trying to use. Any ideas any one?

Hi,

I have problem with nfsroot... everything goes well expect frame errors..

this what I get from 3 minute uptime

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:C0:4F:CB:A1:EF
          inet addr:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx  Bcast:xxx.xxx.255.255  Mask:255.255.0.0

I'm using kernel 2.2.9. What proably would be the cause here. During mounting

nfs disk I recieve RPC error 111... but it mount the disk. Is this normal or something

Actually it's much easier to just use one of the private addresses instead
(you know 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 for example) just use ones you're not
using on your LAN.

Here's my problem...

I've just gotten a DSL connection at home, and I want to use Linux on my old
PC at home to run a router and set up a LAN. My provider (Bell Sympatico in
Ottawa) uses DHCP to assign IP addresses to the machines on the line, so the
NIC attached to the Internet will need to use DHCP, but I'm planning on
using static addresses internally for simplicity's sake. Ideally I'd like
to take advantage of the extra NICs I have laying around and avoid buying a
hub by putting several NICs in the Linux box and having a direct cross-over
line to each of the PCs on the LAN. Is this a good idea?

Assuming there are no major problems with this plan, where can I look for
some fairly detailed information on how to set up this scheme? Can anyone
help me?

Mmmm,
do you mean the following entry in /etc/smb.conf ?
=========================================================
[global]
#message command = csh -c '/usr/X11R6/bin/xedit -display :0 %s;rm %s' &
# message command = sh -c '/usr/local/bin/smbmessage %f %m %t %s' &
message command = sh -c '/usr/local/bin/smbmessage %f %m %t %s' &
dos filetimes = True
=========================================================

I added the dos filetimes, rebooted the Linux machine, but this made no
change in the behaviour.
I still get these wild dates reading the dir of the NT server.

You don't need that. Get the current newsgroup listing from
ftp.isc.org (the guys who maintain INN).

Hello everybody,

I've got several problems with TIS-ftwk.
I'd like to install fwtk-v1.3.tar.Z and fwtkpatches.tgz
Everything's fine (tar, gzip, patch) until the "make"

When I lauch make, many problems appear:

- Concerning several applications (x-gw, tn-gw, ....), there is a
"conflicting types" concerning "sys_errlist". indeed, it's defined in
stdio.h AND in .c files.
then I commented the line in these files. But is it the only solution ?

-I've got millions of 'parse error' in the http-gw.c
I managed to eliminate a few ones, but I've still problems with the
following functions :

go_error
va_alist
va_dcl
goenderror

i'm interested in any information about these files.

- I've got a lot of warnings about redefined functions

- I've got an error on fwd.o in the x-gw.c file.

Can anyone help me ? Ireally need it.
Thanks a lot, in advance.

Serge
