Anthony, most of the systems i deal with are embedded POS devices so i have a custom root file system and don't use the hot-plug script, so i'm not much help there. basically all i do is modprobe the usbkbd module. iirc you should be able to configure the modules.conf file with vendor/product

Anthony, there are numerous usb barcode scanners available. all of the ones i have tested have performed as either legacy usb keyboard devices or as HID devices. the best price/performance has come from welch allyn. they have been very co-operative when it comes to linux support. http://www.qb
