most of the systems i deal with are embedded POS devices so i have a
custom root file system and don't use the hot-plug script, so i'm not
much help there. basically all i do is modprobe the usbkbd module. iirc
you should be able to configure the modules.conf file with
vendor/product

there are numerous usb barcode scanners available. all of the ones i
have tested have performed as either legacy usb keyboard devices or as
HID devices. the best price/performance has come from welch allyn. they
have been very co-operative when it comes to linux support.

i too have confirmed that the usb-rs232 adapters as well as several usb
modems have this same problem that larry and patrick have reported. i'm
currently working with 2.4.21 with the last round of patches from GKH.

wondering if any has successfully made the cyberdata usb-rs232 module
work? it is based on the kawasaki KL5KUSB116 chipset. the KL5KUSB105
module appears to be generic enough to work with this unit, however,
i've been unable to get it working.
