I'm running Ubuntu 5.04 with 2.6.10-5-amd64-k8-smp. Because I've been having random lockups that seem to go away when I turn off usb (VIA chipset) in the bios, I have bought a pci usb card (NEC chip). I assumed that this would have been detected and configured at boot up, but I'm obviously missing something.
dmesg says:- usbcore: registered new driver usbfs usbcore: registered new driver hub and ohci_hcd: 2004 Nov 08 USB 1.1 'Open' Host Controller (OHCI) Driver (PCI) USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver v2.2 I tried mounting usbfs and there was no command line complaint from mount lsmod says:- uhci_hcd 36064 0 ohci_hcd 24008 0 ehci_hcd 33412 0 /proc/bus/usb exists but is empty What do I need to do to get usb working? Will the pci card work even when usb is turned off in the bios, or do I have to enable it and just not use the onboard usb? Basically, I have an Iomega Zip drive, which was previously seen as /dev/sda4 (which currently doesn't exist in /dev), and an Epson 640U scanner.
