OK, I played a little bit more with my F5U234 hub. Earlier I had
reported that I got these messages when plugging it in:
hub.c: new USB device 00:1d.7-7, assigned address 2
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=2 (error=-71)
hub.c: new USB device 00:1d.7-7, assigned address 3
