The software is often the problem. I have Caldera 2.4 and xcdroast 0.98 on my machine. When I try to start xcdroast (as root), I get a message that I don't have scsi support, I need to load sg. Here is lsmod sg 21692 0 (unused) sd_mod 9832 0 (unused)
