Beta which I liked better than the final product. TUSL is another Asus board that uses Intel i815e b-step for Tualatin CPUs. The Asus' 440BX boards are very reliable and have great performance. It was an excellent choice for building home servers. The latest offering is the i845D chipset (forgot the model no.) I have high expection for it and may upgrade to it when P4 becomes cheaper. Right now, P4 is dam expensive. I am using the latest version. I suspect that a lot of such crashes are due to java, which may not be working quite right, although, I don't have such problems with netscape 6.2. Often, a repeat attempt at such a site with opera is successful, so, this is a sporadic but common problem for me when I use opera. The version used to build the linux-kernel-binary RPM is in /usr/src/linux-2.4.2/arch/i386/defconfig. Copy that to /usr/src/linux/.config then run ``make oldconfig''. If you really want to see how Caldera builds the kernel, grab the SRPMS for it from their ftp site, then do an ``rpm -i xxx'' and ``rpm -bp /usr/src/OpenLinux/SPECS/linux.spec'' which will put the buildable source tree under /usr/src/OpenLinux/BUILD. I know, I know, that sucks, but that's the current drift. For you python types, elx has a fairly ancient version (python 1.5) linked as python; you need to reference python2 to get version 2. I noticed this when a script failed to recognize builtin string methods. AMD CPUs are a bit hot. The top-of-the-line ones don't have the protective circuit like P4. Chipsets that support AMD CPU contantly had driver problem (notably VIA). Intel periodically cut prices of her CPU (ok, it's evil, but I am a consumer). It's better to stick with her unless you are in a hurry to get good performance out of your hardware NOW. :) Then I may recommnd you to try SiS 745 chipset + AMD CPU. Hope Nvidia nForce could work out like i440BX... the 440BX is such a legendary chipset! I'm curious why you would wait for P$ to get cheaper when the Athlon XP is cheaper and a better performer? Could it be as simple as updating the BIOS? Anyway, the BIOS id thing is always not dependable and necessary. Speaking of the TUSLC MB line. You should be okay to use --force followed by make install, but just make sure that make install puts things where the rpm you remove puts them.
