As a general aid to debugging, if you don't already know, try Android's
logcat mechanism to view the system logs.  You should be able to get a
wealth of information out of there.

You can either do this using the logcat command from the Android SDK, or
install an app to view the logs on your device.  Search 'logcat' in the
Play store for the latter.
