Given the existing router has an WAN interface with a /29 subnet, I think
it's already a given that the service is delivered as ethernet.
No modem needed.
A router on the other hand, will definitely be needed.

If you have a good firewall already you shouldn't need the
router/firewall functionality of the Cisco thing the provider is
suggesting. Their suggestion is probably based on the assumption that
