Profile Cable

2005-12-12 Thread Philip Lord
Is it true that you can use a SCSI cable in place of a standard
Profile drive cable?

Re: Profile Cable

2005-12-13 Thread macmoni

Hi Phil,

I replaced a few years ago the whole board of a Profile, because the
owner used a SCSI instead a "profile-cable" as he told me, when I
asked, what happened with his profile.
So I'm not really shure, but I won't try to perhaps kill a Profile
doing so :-)

Anybody else, who has both cables and can do some compared measuring?

greetings TOM from Bavaria

I also heard that one pin may need to be removed from the SCSI cable.
No idea what pin however.

Re: Profile Cable

2005-12-13 Thread macmoni

Hi Phil,

Yes, that's true.
One Pin has to be removed. I also saw a Profile or was it an Apple III
or Lisa, where the hole has been closed by a plastic stick in the
connector.

That's because to prevent users to plug in a non-profile cable?
The main problem will be the perhaps different wireing-scheme of the
two sorts of cables. That's why I mentioned to check that by
measuring...

Re: Profile Cable

I'm using a 3" SCSI cable with my profile without issue. The top connector
on my 2 port card was allready missing the pin plug when I got it, so I just
plug it in there. Works like a charm!

Profile Cable Pin Out

2005-06-25 Thread Geoff Barrall
I've got a functioning Lisa and a functioning Profile (I hope) but no
cable to connect them with. Can anybody on the list help with the pin
out for me so I can build my own?

Thanks, Geoff.

Lisa + Profile cable question

I've got my parallel printer port board, my Lisa 2 and my profile 10MB

male 'parallel' cable .. will that work for me?

Re: Profile Cable Pin Out

2005-06-25 Thread James MacPhail

Hi Geoff,

The ProFile cable is straight through (male to male; pin 1-1, 2-2, etc.)

Although the original Apple cable is a shielded round cable, you can use
ordinary ribbon cable with crimp-on connectors. For best results, don't
make the cable longer than necessary; 18 to 24 inches works fine.

Many Lisa/ProFile connectors have pin 7 blocked (to prevent plugging in a
serial cable). You may need to cut pin 7 off the connector on one or both
ends of your cable. It is probably easiest to pull these pins out or
otherwise deal with them before assembling your cable.

Let us know if you have any questions; good luck!

Re: Lisa + Profile cable question

2005-09-07 Thread Nord, Al
It seems to me that the profile used a cable with one of the pins
missing for some reason. I am not sure if the Lisa 2 will recognize the
10 meg profile as the Apple needed an upgrade rom to recognize the 10
meg partition. I have a 10 meg profile and never have tried it on either
of my Lisa/Mac XL's to see if it operates. It works great on my Apple
//G though.

I have the same combination as you do- the Profile 10 MB works fine with a
straight through DB 25 male to male cable. The 10 MB Profile works fine with
Lisa OS 3.1, MacWorks XL, Mac Works Plus and Mac Works + II.
