I've just committed the start of a multifile appender project as
recently discussed on the list. The project is not functional yet,
for example, it doesn't contain any appenders at the moment. Hope to
fill those in over the next few days. What is in there at the moment
is the FileNamePol

Jumping in on this thread a little late, I believe that the decorator
pattern would offer a significant advantage because it would handle
derivatives of the FileAppender class such as RollingFileAppender. On
the down side, in order to configure the embedded file appender,
