Zeroconf module

2007-06-10 Thread Paul Smith
I moved the Zeroconf source directory recently into the main Chainsaw source tree, which I think is a mistake. Chainsaw needs to have it, but a standalone jar is needed in the client end to zeroconf-enable the application to expose it on the network. It make more sense to create a

Chainsaw maven + javadoc artifact

2007-06-05 Thread Paul Smith
I'm a bit at a loss to work out how exactly to accomplish this one, so asking for advice. The Chainsaw build sort of needs a subset of the log4j javadoc bundled with it for users to read the Receiver javadoc. I'm not sure how to declare that with maven. The only way I can think of is

Got it all working. A few things: - getting the log4j 1.2 branch to mvn install was a bit of a hassle because I needed to get nteventappender.dll into my path (from 1.2.14) - the dll wasn't getting built via mvn install - should it have been? maybe another maven target I should have

Chainsaw Maven

2007-06-02 Thread Paul Smith
Hi all, I've begin on a maven journey recently, and I'm convinced of it's value. I would like to mavenize the Chainsaw project as part of integrating it with log4j 1.2.15. It would be nice to do a set of small directory changes to fit the standard maven project; we're not far off it,

maven dependencies for JULBridge

2007-04-28 Thread Paul Smith
Ok, I have a local patch that adds a new JULReceiver class plus unit test that works fine if I add the log4j-component Eclipse project as a dependency.  Yet, if I remove that project dependency, and add a maven dependency to apache-log4j-component 0.1-SNAPHOT after 'mvn install' that  into my

o.a.l.db.DBAppender and o.a.l.varia.ListModelAppender are in apache- log4j-receivers though maybe that is not the best place and likely not tested. DBAppender probably needs to be moved into either the 1.2 branch with the other appenders, or into a new optional appenders module. The

JULBridge and Receivers module

2007-04-26 Thread Paul Smith
I began to do a local working copy svn move from the JUL bridge into the log4j-receivers module. But then I stopped, because the JUL bridge requires JDK1.4, and I didn't want to pollute the receivers module with that dependency just yet. I'll instead work towards making the bridge contain

JULi bridge log4j Configurator

To take messages from java.util.logging and dispatch them into log4j would require some key to signify the appender should work in reverse. Don't have a great name for it, but import might work. Receiver? :) !-- takes java.util.logging events and calls log4j -- appender

On reflection, it does seem like the bridge from JULI to log4j seems conceptually similar to the existing receivers and a bridge from log4j to JULI really seems like a appender. I'm thinking that JULI-log4j bridge should join the other receivers in apache- logging-receivers. If there is

Wasn't intentional, but I don't think we need to change it (at least at the moment). The LoggingEvent methods (getProperties, getPropertyKeySet) copied over from log4j 1.3 already used Map and Set, so it would not be possible to compile on JDK 1.1 without changing the return types, but
