Well, actually the existing code is correct. The log4j.dtd is misleading. The 
threshold field of a repository cannot be set to null. The "null" value for the 
threshold attribute simply means don't touch the threshold field, the threshold 
field keeps its old value.

My bad. I rechecked and there is indeed a bug in the way DOMConfigurator 
handles the threshold attribute. It'll be fixed in 1.2.7. Thanks for insisting.

According to the DTD "null" is a valid value for threshold:

http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/";
threshold (all | debug | info | warn | error | fatal | off | 
null) "null"
debug (true | false | null) "null"

As you can see it is actually the default value.

The initial startup doesn't complain about it either, and it works as expected 
(all loggings are displayed).
