I'd suggest trying the latest developer snapshot and its ability to use an
existing fileappender definition from a log4j.xml or log4j.properties
file...

This could be a 'refresh' problem in Chainsaw - try this:
Do whatever you need to do to cause 'ls' to do its trick.
Instead of using ls, just minimize Chainsaw and restore it.

initial loading of the file with the log file data, I did not see the
subsequent updates in the logfile picked up by chainsaw until I "cd" to the log
file directory and did an "ls" for the logfi

classpath and everything should work fine.

file is on the file system, but when the file is specified with ftp or http,
