CDO support on Windows 2000 may be fragile. However the System.Web.Mail 
implementation is platfrom provider specific, and it is supported by the 
platform provider - i.e. Microsoft or Mono.

It is beyond the scope of log4net to include a seperate implementation of an 
SMTP client. It should be possible for 3rd parties to create a seperate 
assembly that uses a seperate SMTP client (e.g. the GPL 
http://sourceforge.net/projects/opensmtp-net) to implement their own version of 
the SmptAppender.
