Here's a problem,
Say I wanted to use the PXE booting method with
LTSP, but say I wanted a dialog box to appear so the user can choose between
booting into LTSP and a windows 2000 client/server domain. Windows 2000 is
installed locally. DHCPD problems aside, how could
Michael,
What I envisage working behind the connection is this, correction if I
am wrong.
The dhcp server is set for lease time 21600 by default, therefore as
long as your disconnection is less than that default, the IP is still
logged to that particular terminal to the server.
I have shut down

IMHO, PXE is the _much_ nicer and easier way to go. I have written up
how I do it at http://www.webbtide.com.au and follow the link to "LT

In the spirit of working around the problem (and reading the 'man'
page): press F8 in to get a pop-up menu in VNCviewer. Then pick 'Send
CTRL-ALT-DEL'.

Perhaps this is something that can be mapped. By default I think X takes it.
One thing the OP can try (and my memory is hazy, so
Carrie,
I believe ctrl-alt-del is captured by init, not by the window manager.
Try editing /etc/inittab (i.e. /opt/ltsp/.../inittab). Sorry, I forget
the exact syntax.

Shane,
We use devfs for the device nodes. It is a separate virtual
filesystem that gets mounted on /dev and that is probably
hiding whatever was there. The device nodes should automatically
pop into existence when the modules are loaded.

Brent,
I've not tried to do this with pxe. I've done it with
just plain ole Etherboot though and it works well.
Sounds like an issue for the Etherboot guys. Try thier mailing

Of course having looked at this for a couple of days I found the answer to
my own question ten minutes after the post
You have to be clever enough to append the correct arguments to the kernel
boot command :-(
append root=/dev/ram0 initrd=initrd.ltsp init=/linuxrc rw
and NOT
append ram=/dev/ra

In trying to get a better understanding of the whole netboot procedure,
I am trying to boot, then mount from a directory other than opt/ltsp/i386.
I have created a directory with nfsrootinit, and edited its fstab etc.
After pivot_root, i get
/usr/bin no such file or directory. but the client
Does anybody have any ideas why my /linuxrc script should be running with
a PID of 7 ? This causes /sbin/init to fall over as in log below. I've seen
some similar questions in other newsgroup archives but no answers as to what
I've done or missed in my configuration.

I am attempting to set a box up that using a intel eepro100 and a pxe
rom-o-matic with the option turned on for booting from local device. What I
would like to accomplish is to have the terminal run off ltsp as a client, or
if (L) run win98 off its harddrive.
I am having no trouble booting fro
