I am having problems setting up local printing with LTSP running on 64-bit
Ubuntu 8.04.1.
The latest version, 32-bit LTSP environment built with --copy-sourceslist
Whenever I put these lines into the lts.conf file (these have been part of our
usual install):
PRINTER_0_DEVICE=/dev/usblp0
. I'm looking for any tips for
optimizing the settings for 6040B's. I ask because they seem to boot up more
smoothly under Feisty than they do in Hardy.

Anyone know if the Devon 6040b is compatible with ltsp 4.2?
As a follow-up. Just for fun... I tried to boot up a 6040b with LTSP 5.x on
Ubuntu-Intrepid (beta).
It didn't have a happy ending. A variety of error messages, followed by a
flash of green, followed by a black screen.
I may try to

I don't know about 4.2- but they work well with LTSP 5 on Ubuntu.

If you installed VMWare Server after installing LTSP, VMWare will remove xinetd
and replace it with something else, I recall...
I have had this botch up things on Ubuntu 8.04.1 before. You just just need to
reinstall xinetd. VMWare doesn't seem all that dependent on it and keeps
functioning
And here, my friends, is the ENTIRE problem.
I should stress that I said *almost* afraid. I am enough of a nerd that I want
to get my hands on the latest and greatest. I am testing Intrepid on my *home*

What you're looking for is very similar to what you get when you run

We may give Debian a try. At least on a test machine.
I went on at length about some of our issues with Ubuntu-hardy, but my response
got
What about debian-testing...?
(i dont want to get you away from debian or something, but your
assumptions seem fairly wrong, in fact the massively outdated and stuck
nature of stable debian releases (which is great for servers but sucks
on desktops) is the main reason ubuntu exists at all)
just try Debian- as the change would be less jarring, and Debian
seems certainly more stable than Ubuntu.
Basically, our particular situation isn't very well served by the six-month
development cycle of Ubuntu. And their priorities no longer seem to jibe very
well with ours.

Sadly, after doing fresh installs from the 8.04.1 CD (on a new machine, no
less), I am having the same problems getting the Symbio clients to work.
Did you install lsb-core only, or a selection or everything of the
lsb-packages?
I think lsb-core installed all that was necessary.
