was the trick. I did so and found that libcanberra-gtk-modules needed to
be installed in the chrootthen I found I couldn't write to /tmp once

OK, I tried that and got a certain kind of result. An Nbd-Swap folder
gets created in /tmp, and it contains a file named with the IP address
of the terminal. It is a 500+ MB file occupying just 32KB on the hard
drive.

When I installed lubuntu and then installed ltsp it did not have this
file. After I added it then I got working swap on my clients. The
ltsp_i386.conf file existed on the lubuntu install but not the swap.conf.

I was able to get Moodle installed but did it manually. There were a couple
of issues with the EdUbuntu install. I don't know if you are aware of them
or not but
1) EdUbuntu is using an old version (1.9.9) of Moodle so I installed the
newest (2.3.1)
